I really admire how open you are with your thought process on this topic. I was such a huge fan of you back in the day, and it's funny now going through similar motions mentally dealing with the algorithm/audience. This video was really great food for thought, and I'm just really happy to see that you're still around and successful even after so many years

Genuinely. Jordan's MC content never full appealed to me, but i always knew of him and followed him on twitter. seeing the "I'm Done" and "Thank you" I was very interested in what he had to say. Same goes for this one. His POV and experience on YT & MC is what brings me to these, unlike normal minecraft

Seeing Jordan essentially breaking down the exact way to figure out how to grow an old but gold channel through strategized marketing to an ever evolving and all knowing internet algorithm is somehow 4th wall breaking by showing how massive and ever changing yet seriously flawed this said machine is. Great content

    • Thedragonixxx
      Thedragonixxx 2 meses atrás +1

Why seriously flawed? Am happy for Jordan to figure out how to grow again, but growth always needs to be earned. To have a system that automatically caters the oldies of the site somehow would be greatly flawed too as then we'd get the same content creators forever. Sure short term we like that as their fans, but compare that with the real world where we have the same few companies dominate the market in their fields for 20 years+ hardly leaving room for newcomers what stifles innovation.

The "algorithm" for "audience" swap is really helpful. I see a lot of people get frustrated at the system instead of making videos they and their audience want to see.

@The Flyfly Depends on how Drastic the Change is TBH, but my best Advice is - Don't make a Video Explaining that the Channel is gonna Change, instead let it happen. most Successful Changes where Gradual enough to not Notice, unless you go back in time.
"TheAnimeMan" (Joey), is problably one of the best examples on how to pull of a Change, he Started as a Gamming Channel, Change to Vlog (2007 Style inside the house xD), then Anime Reviews, then Vlogs but Modern Times and he is Nailing it Pretty well, and now he is Expanding the Horizons with OLD Style Content (which is a Blast to watch.)... But there is one thing that Joey has, and thats theming, He never Lost it.
Joey(TheAnimeMan), is always has he's Theming on Check, i don't know exactly what he's Theming is, but he has a Solid one...
and yes everyone has one, and no there is no way to lose it, they are only ways to Improve it, the only way to lose it, is if you where faking it...
(if i have to guess its "Anime and Japan" but with a Sussy Baka Attitude xD).
      Even Jordan has one....
TLDR: if you plan to Change your Content do it!, just make sure its Gradual and not Instant...

I had just finished watching all my other shows/series and stuff. So, now I’m enjoying each episode of Ragnamod and RLcraft that go up. Basically, you’ve filled a recently opened niche in my entertainment schedule, and I’m enjoying it very much. I have no intentions of leaving anytime soon.

I had a thought just now: After you finish the series, instead of just grouping all the videos into a playlist or making a supercut of all of them like some youtubers do, maybe try and smash every 3 or 4 videos into one video and condense all of the episodes into a much smaller but still episodic experience, that way it's a good middle ground between long videos and sheer quantity of content, thus making any new viewers who want to come watch the series after it's done feel less daunted by the massive amount of content, but still gets that bump in views and watchtime because the series is multiple episodes.

it's probably because, throughout the various different videos he makes, there are groups of people who only watch certain videos, as they find those said videos more entertaining, but when he makes videos about the channel as a whole, it brings all the groups together cause it applies to them all. It actually makes a lot of sense.

as someone who has been brought back in by these videos and was personally interested when served those "random recipes" and similar videos (except the random recipes *and* drops.. I thought I wanted that.. it was too much to be entertaining lol)
But I think these videos are doing well because the older people who liked, and still like, Jordan want to see him more and are watching to see what he says about his plans for the channel and type of content he's going to be making. RL Craft? Probably won't hold the older people for as long-term (although it is cool and RL Craft was the last thing I remember watching on this channel until recently.) Mod showcases like random recipes and more fun Minecraft videos? Probably will keep people interested long enough to get back into his other content, like RL Craft if they weren't super into it already.
      Just my opinions, though.

Jordan was what I would watch continuously, everyday, without fail when I was about 12 years old when he created his "The Escape" Minecraft series. Now being 22, and growing to find myself coming back here every couple of weeks to see how he is doing, its refreshing yet reminiscent to see him be the same personality I grew up with. Sure he has grown and changed how he does a couple of things but something Jordan has always had in every video I have watched is passion. The tenacity and detail he brings, whether its a gaming video or an analytical video such as this one.. he never fails to include important information he has prepared to share. Thank you for always being CaptainSparklez since I was a kid to now an adult man, I hope to keep supporting you for much more time to come.

For me personally, I have begun rewatching within the past 2 weeks - having seen the I'm Done video in my recommended after watching your collab with Iskall. What ultimately drew me back in is the episodic content and also the length of videos. @Mauve The Wolf Absolutely. I noticed how people don't play as many games just to play them anymore. It's always just what's trendy and many don't even finish it till the end. I always have to pray to see another episode of something that I like, only to see that the BRclipr already moved on to the next best thing anyway.
I used to love let's plays and their chilled out nature. Going in blind and enjoying every second of it, both the content creator and I.
A lot of Minecraft series are scripted now and sometimes that can be fun to watch, if the story is at least comprehensible- unlike what the DSMP storyline got in its final days, where they improvised on the spot and constantly looped their character arcs. But I just want something where the player just goes with the flow of Minecraft and actually plays the game and pours their heart out into everything they do in it. I want to see them enjoy it, darn it!

Obviously make whatever makes you happy, and if it lines up with the algorithm no problem with you making that content. I loved coming home from middle school to your modded survival series and now as I'm halfway through college feels great to have that same kind of feeling with the RL craft playthrough. Hey! I thought I'd give my take on the subject as someone who's hobby has become understanding the enigma that is the BRclip algorithm.
I believe that the current boon to the channel is primarily due to the implied nature of both "I'm done" and "thank you". Both of them (intentionally or otherwise) give a sense of potential finality in their composition and titling. Not to mention that in the thank you video you look a tad sad in the thumbnail, which I must admit after watching "I'm done" made me consider if you were quitting, despite you assuring otherwise in the previous video. At least that'd be my guess as to why it has more views than the original somehow (side note: another small reason for the videos success is their adherence to the >50 character rule, which not all of your recent videos follow).
On top of this, both videos function as a call to action to support the channel again, bringing back many "new" (old) viewers and therefore expanding its reach to new viewers on the recommended page. Since almost everyone on this side of the site knows who you are, it'd be big news if you quit.
I'm glad to hear you are back to making content you enjoy, particularly in the more episodic fashion, just know that the current boon in viewership likely won't last. To an extent you already know this, as the traffic from the 2 viral videos are clearly temporary, but its not just that. Videos in the episodic format will often be very good for a channel at their start. They bring retention and can build core viewers. But this effect tapers off dramatically with each new installment in a series. Would you click on part 35 of a random series you haven't watched before? Not likely. A somewhat effective (albeit imperfect) patch for this is not having a number in the title or thumbnail (and preferably not at the start of the video either) and to make every installment as newcomer friendly as possible.
That all sounds a bit doom and gloom, but I think you may have stumbled upon what's best for you anyway. You've got a select group of particularly dedicated fans that have already stood the test of time (I mean Jesus Christ, 10 years on the internet is an eternity!). As long as you keep things fresh the core fans will stick around and you will be closer to them because of it. Don't let the subscriber numbers get you down as this goes along. Any "shrinkage" isn't usually of any core fans that would consistently watch anyway.
Keep up the good work man, It was very intriguing to hear your thoughts on the matter! :j

I’ve been watching since I was a kid. I’ve always loved all of your videos. However, the videos that changed the way I watch BRclip and made you into my favorite BRclip was the Mianite series. Having an edited series leaving on cliffhangers and making me want to come back was what made it perfect for me. Quickly I chose to watch you over any tv shows or anything else. Me and all my buddies watched them and talked about them. I love your series. I’m beyond proud and excited to be a captain sparklez fan. I feel like I’m falling back into how I was when I was a kid. I’m so excited to see what you do next

I really enjoy how you're sharing this process with us. It's very interesting (to me at least) to see how the analytics seem to be working. Glad you can enjoy doing what you would like to do, instead of trying to always do what others are doing.
And what if the algorithm just actually wants everyone to do what they actually want to do and doesn't want anyone to pander to it? 0-0 Considering the idea of algorithm=audience, that would honestly make some sense!

I’ve been a consistent viewer since just after the initial move from the PDTS channel, and i’ve stayed and always loved your content, but there’s just something really good about what you’re doing right now. One of my favorite parts of your content has always been when you’ve done things that you were genuinely excited about, from your music to your cars, and so much more over this last decade. So it’s just nice to see you relax and focus more on what you like, rather than pushing yourself to make something according to an external set of values. Thats one of my fav bits of advice I see content creators give to each other; make what makes you happy, don’t force yourself to make something for others. So it’s just good to see you this happy about your own content again!

I’m similar, I started playing RLcraft last summer, I don’t fully remember why or who made me start it, but I did. And I stopped playing after a bit because I accidentally lost my stuff while recklessly trying to fight a tier two dragon on top of a either tier five or tier six nest mid air, losing a bunch of stuff in the process, but still a salvageable world. Saw Ryanhiga start playing RLcraft again I think, and started to pick it up again. Now pretty much watching his RLcraft videos mostly after seeing the I saw the “I’m done” video.

This video is a small peek into what goes on in your world. I loved your videos to begin with, but seeing you be a real person is so refreshing and I absolutely love it. Most of the big channels i see are just big blank scenarios where the person doing the video is afraid to do or say the wrong thing, for fear that it will alienate their fanbase. You realized that your fanbase is here to stay, amd decided to become slightly more personal with these three videos. I appreciate it, its what i want to see.
